Eye of the Tiger
Song
: Eye of the tiger (1982)
Movie : Rocky III
Singer: Survivor (Group)
The 'eye or eyes of the tiger' actually refers
to what the tiger's
prey last sees prior to being killed. It's a reference to impending death of the prey.
Here it refers to the focus on ones lifes dreams.
There are 3 situations in the song that the
person experienced in life to follow their dreams as if you trade your passion
for glory you can easily be set back.
a) It also gives wisdom to all people of any situation
or life goal not just referred to a boxing life or physical fighting it can
refer to also dealing with difficult situations that sets back your goals or
dreams. The end result when you accomplish your dream is to not stop even
though you obtained the glory/fame/fortune because the dream must survive. Eye
of the tiger is what a person must have to succeed to continue their dreams. A
rival would challenge your dream. So strength ,confidence, power is what the
tiger represents.
b) It's basically speaking out of everybody's
point of view, saying don't give up you worked too hard to get this far and you
either gave up or got obsessed with fame
c) Where it says "They change their passion
for glory” is saying that unlike them I'm going to the top and I'm keeping my love
for it . Don't leave your love for it.
There is a heart wrenching story of Sly
Stallone. His story of rags to riches. He even went through a short period of
homelessness, spending a few nights sleeping on the floor of a bus station. But
the worst of his dire straits would be when he had to sell his dog for just $
25 ( to a man at the liquor store queue) because he could barely keep him fed.
Struggle was a way of life for Sylvester Stallone for many years. Undoubtedly,
his “sade saathi” was on during that period.
Two weeks later, he saw a boxing match between
Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner and that match gave him the inspiration to write
the script for the famous movie, “ROCKY”. He wrote the script for 20 hours! He
tried to sell it and got an offer for $125,000 for the script. But he had just “one
request”. He wanted to “Star” in the movie as Rocky himself But the studio said No. They wanted a “Real
Star “.
They said he “Looked funny and talked funny”.
He left with his script. A few weeks later, the studio offered him $250,000 for
the script. He refused. They even offered $350,000. He still refused. They
wanted his movie, but NOT him. He said NO. He had to be in that movie.
After a while, the studio agreed, gave him
$35,000 for the script and let him star in it! The rest is history! The movie
won Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Film Editing at the prestigious Oscar
Awards. He was even nominated for BEST ACTOR! The Movie ROCKY was even inducted
into the American National Film Registry as one of the greatest movies ever! Stallone is the only actor in the history of
U.S. cinema to have starred in a box office number one film across six
consecutive decades
And do you know the first thing he bought with
the $35,000? The Dog he sold.. Yes, Stallone loved his Dog so much that he
stood at the liquor store for 3 days waiting for the man he sold his dog to.
And on the 3rd day, he saw the man coming with the dog. Stallone explained why
he sold the dog and begged for the dog back. The man refused. And, Believe it
or Not, Stallone had to pay $15,000 for the same dog he sold at $25 only! And
he finally got his dog back!
And today, the same Stallone who slept on the
streets and sold his dog just because he couldn’t even feed it anymore, is one
of the greatest Movie Stars who ever walked the Earth with a net worth of $ 400
million!
The songs tells us that the idea is to keep
dreaming…..Whatever happens to You, Keep Dreaming. Even when they crush your
hopes, Keep Dreaming. Even when they turn you away, Keep Dreaming. Even when
they shut you down, Keep Dreaming. Never give up! Fight for your glory because “No
one knows what you are capable of except yourself”
Even if it means selling all your clothes and sleeping
with the dogs, Its ok ! But “ As long as you are still alive, your story is not
over “
Best lines :
Rising
up, back on the street
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
Just saw Manoj Bajpai saying in one interview
that his mother always used to tell him “Never underestimate unsuccessful
people and don’t treat them like fools or losers” “Don’t laugh at them, don’t
demean them”. This is so true. You never know when these guys can turn the tide
one day and make you eat your words ! Watch out!
Keep up the fight. Keep your dreams and hope
alive. Go crack it !!!
Have a super and “Rocking” Sunday guys!

Lyrics - Eye of the tiger
Did my time, took my chances
Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet
Just a man and his will to survive
So many times it happens too fast
You trade your passion for glory
Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past
You must fight just to keep them alive
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger
Hanging tough, staying hungry
They stack the odds 'til we take to the street
For the kill with the skill to survive
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger
Had the guts, got the glory
Went the distance, now I'm not gonna stop
Just a man and his will to survive
It's the thrill of the fight
Rising up to the challenge of our rival
And the last known survivor
Stalks his prey in the night
And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger
