This is a popular song from the acclaimed 1987 movie Ijaazat, directed by Gulzar, who also wrote the song.

In the film, the song takes cue from the poem, Anuradha Patel leaves behind in letter, for her former lover Naseeruddin Shah, asking him to return her things. As he reads on, he finds they are not physical things she wants back, but memories of times spent together.

When Gulzar first showed the non-rhyming lyrics to RD Burman, he jokingly complained that Gulzar would next ask him to set a newspaper headline to music. Typically most other song lyrics have a pattern and proper rhyming

It is basically a break up song where the lady is asking her ex to return all the things that she had given him. Not in terms of material things but in terms of memories of time spent together and emotions like bheege bheege din and tears etc. Would be understood better by the people who have actually experienced the break up or Taang ( in Hindi) in real life…))

Wonderfully written by Gulzar though it didn’t have a typical pattern of any other songs. The lyrics are mind-blowingly meaningful.

Asha Bhosale won the National Filmfare award for best singer and Gulzar won the National Filmfare award for Best Lyrics

Best lines :

·         Saavan ke kuch bheege bheege din rakhe hain
Aur mere ik khat main lipti raat padi hai
Vo raakh bhujaa do, mera vo saamaan lauta do

·         Ek akeli chhataree main jab aadhe aadhe bheeg rahe the
Aadhe sookhe aadhe geele, sukha to main le aaye thee
Geela man shayad bistar ke paas pada ho
Vo bhijwa do, mera vo saamaan lauta do

This song is so smartly crafted by Gulzar Saab. It takes time and effort to understand this song, after ofcourse, watching the movie. It is like a complex character of a novel or a movie. It not only has its imperfections and complexity but also has brilliance and simplicity. And when sung by the legendary Asha Bhosale the song reaches its zenith! All these things make it one of the most favourite songs.

Break ups are painful particularly when one is married or living in. There are so many memories which won’t be easily erased. Even places visited by the couple brings back loads of memories in a flash.

Most people fall for the rebound relationship. A "rebound relationship" can occur when someone is dating a new person without being entirely over their ex. Those in a rebound relationship may feel like their relationship is moving very fast or their partner isn't committing to plans which is falling for another partner.

Rebound is not a solution as one might end up in another problem soon due to the bad decision of the chosen  partner.

So care may be taken by the concerned people and give themselves atleast 6 months time of singledom. For most of us to fully heal, it usually takes around 6 months for every year we are with someone,

Listen understand and enjoy. Have a blissful day!
